Hypothyroidism without Myxedema

Hyperthyroidism is one of those diseases that continue to confuse many medical experts and doctors, especially if it occurs without myxedema. Usually, myxedema is considered an extreme form of hypothyroidism. However, to consider the two separate is not what occurs in many doctors.

Growing Research of Hypothyroidism without Myxedema

However, research is underway. The growing evidence in recent years has suggested the presence of hypothyroidism without myxedema. Though first many doctors didn't know of it, articles and papers are being published that highlight the possibility of this disease. Reports are coming from more and more regions, indicating that the disease is not only present, but it often occurs in frequency.

Despite the reports, though, it is very important for doctors to completely ignore its symptoms. There are many strong reasons for that. The reason is that there are no signs and symptoms which appear in the more common disease known as hypothyroidism with myxedema. It does make sense since the disease in question is hypothyroidism without myxedema. However, the lack of prominent signs makes it very hard to detect it.

Signs of Hypothyroidism without Myxedema

In hypothyroidism with myxedema, the skin becomes dry and harsh or thick. Furthermore, the loss of hair might also occur. The patient might become sensitive to cold, and the temperature may not be normal. These signs are all proof of the disease. However, in the case of hypothyroidism without myxedema, these signs don’t occur at all. There is also another famous sign which is usually absent in the mentioned disease, which is the presence of mental lethargy and general hoarseness. With so many signs missing, it is natural to disregard the presence of hypothyroidism without myxedema.

Still, upon closer inspection and careful analysis, medics can find a few signs and identify the presence of this disease. One of the most visible signs that have been found is a low basal metabolic rate. This low basal metabolic rate's discovery was accidental, which once more proves that not many doctors are aware of hypothyroidism without myxedema.

Upon closer inspection, it is revealed that those aren’t the only signs. There is also constipation as well as nervousness, poor emotional control, intense fatigue as well as faded episodes of pain which are prevalent in some areas.

It is important to know that women are more affected than men from hypothyroidism without myxedema. It is quite possible to get a misleading diagnosis considering the disease’s signs overlap with other signs.

Final Thoughts

Hypothyroidism without myxedema is a relatively new disease in terms of discovery and research. However, its presence has been verified and its existence is known through several signs. In time, more documentation will be available on it.
